We had an amazing first 2 days of school in 2G! Students knocked my socks off with their enthusiasm, kindness, and cooperation. 2Gers engaged in many lessons/activities that introduced us to new curriculum and provided opportunities to help us get to know one another better. Please enjoy these highlights of our studies:
Scavenger Hunt - Students worked with a partner to find specific things around our classroom. We had a ball learning about our classroom and connecting with new/old friends.
Bookmarks/D.E.A.R. Time - "D.E.A.R." stands for, "Drop Everything And Read". We learned all about the books in our 2G library and practiced choosing a "Just Right book" . Ask your 2Ger to explain the "five finger rule". This is one tool we use to help us decide if a book is "not to hard and not too easy...it's just right." We also made special bookmarks to use throughout the year!
Math: Students created a class bar graph. We collected data representing the number of letters we have in our first names. 2G had a rich discussion about how information on a bar graph is organized and what we can learn from it. Our graph is on our hallway bulletin board!
Read Aloud and Respond - Mrs. Gomes read one of her favorite books, "The Magic Hat", by Mem Fox to the class. We loved the rhythm of the words as well as the surprise ending! Afterward, 2Gers designed their own magic hats and came up with very creative ideas of what each hat could do. If only they were real!
Time Capsules: Students filled our class time capsule that we'll open during the last week of school. Everyone included: a piece of writing, a string used to measure height, a handprint cut-out, and a photograph. It will be so exiting to see how we've grown.
* It was wonderful to meet so many families and I look forward to connecting during upcoming "Get to know you" (optional) 10-minute meetings. The schedule for these meetings is posted outside of our classroom on our news board. *
Have a wonderful start to your week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gomes
