What a wonderful week! It was so nice to see so many of you at Open House. The amazing 2Gers worked very hard this week and earned more community cubes for our class cube jar. When we fill it up, we'll get to vote on a way to celebrate all of our efforts to work as a team and to show that we can TRY anything. Please enjoy these highlights of our week:
Literacy: Readers dove into stations this week. We learned how to do: Read the room, Buddy Read, Science Station, Making Words, Guided Reading, and Phone Station. Ask your 2Ger to tell you all about them!
Fundations: We focused on, "c", "k", and "ck" words this week. One of the rules we learned was: "ck" only comes at the end of the base word. Students are learning study habits as we practice our spelling words.
Math: Mathematicians started Math stations! Students found out who their math buddy is and learned how to work through different math activities. These activities include a number of different games and meeting with Mrs. Gomes. Students are currently focusing on explaining their thinking. We are using what we know about combinations of 10, doubles, and number composition to help solve problems with three addends.
Social Studies: 2G was super excited to be introduced to Flat Stanley. After reading the book by Jeff Brown, students designed their own Flat Stanleys. Students have also written letters to a friend/family member who lives somewhere outside of Brookline to help us with our study. Once I've collected addresses, we'll mail him all over the world and will look forward to getting postcards telling us about different places from the recipients. We continued our study of geography by learning about the 7 continents and 5 oceans.
Computers: We got to listen to stories in, "Storyline online". We love using our laptops in the classroom and we can't wait to start Raz Kids next week!
Spanish: Profe Mendez has been teaching us how to express emotions/feelings in Spanish. In addition, we are learning how to name the parts of our bodies within a song.
Have a wonderful weekend and Happy October!
