We kicked off an amazing week with our "About me collage" shares. I am so proud of all of our 2-Gers for working so hard on their collages and for being so brave when presenting in front of the class. We learned a lot about one another and we found out that we have so much in common! Please enjoy these highlights of our studies:
Literacy: We completed our study of the Strega Nona series by Tomie dePaola this week. Mrs. Gomes read a pop up book entitled, Brava, Strega Nona! for our big finish and it was magical! Everyone made such wonderful text to text and text to self connections. We are looking forward to exploring our Literacy centers next week.
Scholastic News: Every Friday, we'll read our Scholastic Newspaper together. Our first edition was about two unlikely best friends: a tiger cub and a lion cub. In addition to learning facts about these creatures, we learned about the important features of a newspaper (articles, headings, captions).
Math: Mathematicians used number lines to help solve problems and complete number sentences. We also learned a new game that will become one of our future math stations: "10 fingers high or low". 2Gers helped fill in speech bubbles with positive phrases to use when working with a partner. We are gearing up for math stations coming our way!
Social Studies: Geographers learned about the differences and similarities between photographs and maps this week. We also practiced using the cardinal directions to help us locate things in a classroom.
Science: Mrs. Gomes shared items from nature from our Fall display in the classroom. These are things that we'll keep an eye out for on our upcoming nature walk. We explored a wasps' nest, several types of birds' nests, a leaf chart, an animal tracks chart, and pinecones.
Fundations: Our Fundations friends continued learning about digraphs. On Monday, we started studying our digraph spelling words. We worked hard to learn our words (many on our word wall) during the week and we completed a "Spelling check in" on Friday. We showed Mrs. Gomes how we: 1. Isolate sounds, 2. Use them in words, and 3. Use them in sentences. Way to go!
