Go, 2G! I'm so proud of everyone for working so hard this week. We earned a lot of community cubes for our jar and it's almost filled up! We are working on using our growth mindset in persevering and taking chances. Please enjoy these highlights of our studies:
Math: Mathematicians focused on bringing numbers to life in story problems. Students learned how to write and solve story problems in an efficient way. We are gaining an appreciation for the different ways our math brains work. Some of our problem solving strategies include the use of base 10, doubles, number lines, and decomposing. Next week, we'll explore story problems further as we delve into subtraction.
Writing Workshop: Wow! Writers are doing an incredible job stretching out their personal narratives by including meaningful details. We focused on adding describing words, thinking about the 5 senses. Students learned the saying, "When you think you are done, you've just begun". This highlights the goal of explaining more, checking capitalization and punctuation, and moving from writing a factual list toward weaving ideas into a story.
Literacy: Readers are developing their fluency skills in center work. This week, we learned how to do our, "Word Work" center where we practice our weekly spelling pattern in a number of different activities.
Fundations: We learned about the vowel teams, "ai", and "ay". These vowel teams are tricky because they make the same long a sound. Ask your 2Ger to tell you some of the words they've mastered. We also got to use some silly tools for erasing during Fundations white board time. We used something we normally wear on our feet!
Read Aloud: Every day Mrs. Gomes reads a story aloud to the class during snack time and we had two that were fan favorites this week: Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin and Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert.
Have a wonderful weekend!
