What an amazing week! We were such busy bees and we had a blast learning together. We even got to kick off the week by celebrating Tamar's and Gabriel's birthdays! Please enjoy these highlights of our studies:
Morning Meeting: 2G learned about the four pieces of our daily morning meeting:
1. Morning Message 2. Greeting one another (we are learning to say, "Good morning" in many different languages ) 3. Student share and 4. Energizer/exercise. We loved learning new things about the students who shared during meetings this week.
Literacy: We are working on a Tomie dePaola author study that focuses on his Strega Nona series. Each day, 2-G readers engaged in interactive read aloud and response. I am so proud of all 2Gers for stretching their minds and making strong text to self connections.
Writing Workshop: Writers began our handwriting work this week! We focused on uppercase letters and showing that we are, "ready to write". In addition, students completed a piece of writing entitled, "What I want to be when I grow up". Our fabulous writing will be up on our bulletin board for all to enjoy.
Social Studies: Geographers began their study of maps by learning about a "bird's eye view". Students worked in pairs to create a bird's eye view map of our classroom. We are so excited to learn more about where we live and where we are in relation to the rest of the world.
Science: Wow! Scientists knocked my socks off. 2Gers did their first observational drawing this week. They used loupes to look carefully at all of the characteristics of a leaf. We learned how to draw and label our observations in our science journals.
Fundations: Fundations is our phonics study. This week we reviewed initial sounds and began using digraphs to spell and tap out sounds. Ask your 2Gers to tap out a word for you!
We are so happy to be together in our 2G community and we are off to a great start!
