Continents and oceans, oh my! 2-G Geographers have been learning more about maps this week. We felt a topographical map and explored the differences between types of maps. In addition, students created their own maps which they brought home to share. After learning more about the continents, 2-Gers were super excited to see the correlation between a world map and the names and placement of our classroom tables. Your Geographer can tell you all about it. Please enjoy these additional highlights of our studies:
Literacy: Readers have been doing a wonderful job learning how to work through our literacy centers. Many centers require students to work independently and apply strategies they've learned about being a good reader. Way to go!
Social Studies: Mrs. Gomes read the story, Flat Stanley, by Jeff Brown to the class. We made our own Flat Stanleys and we'll soon be sending them on world-wide adventures inspired by the book!
Math: Mathematicians worked on using the number line to solve addition and subtraction problems this week. We also learned how to play "Turn Over 10" with our math partners. This coming week we'll be starting our math stations where we get to meet in our groups with Mrs. Gomes.
Fundations: Our phonics patterns this week focused on words that contain, "c", "k", and "ck". We practiced our words throughout the week and took our first spelling review on Friday. 2-Gers did an amazing job! We have also been adding new words to our classroom Word Wall with our Word Wall cheer. Have your fantastic speller show you an example!
Science: Scientists began exploring things we see in the Fall. We learned about why and how the leaves change colors and what a special process we get to see in New England! In addition, we've been working on observational drawings in our science notebooks in preparation for our nature walk coming up on October 8th.
Spanish: In Spanish we have been practicing how to express our emotions when someone asks the question,"Como Estas?" ("How are you?"). Muy bien!
Enjoy your week.
