Wow! Our amazing week ended with a fantastic Collage Share that we all enjoyed. I am so proud of every 2-Ger for working so hard on his/her collage. Students had the opportunity to stand up in front of the class and present some of the elements that represent important people/things in their lives. It was such a delight to learn so much about each other. These beautiful collages are hanging up inside of our room for everyone to admire. Please enjoy these additional highlights of our studies:
Literacy: We began learning about our centers this week in Literacy. Students were introduced to four centers that they will be working through. We practiced the Independent Reading Center, Buddy Reading Center, Write the Room Center, and Writing Center. Soon students will be meeting with me in Guided Reading groups as we cycle through different literacy based/skill building activities.
Writing Workshop: We are working on being careful writers in 2-G as we practice forming our letters correctly. This week we focused on Capital letters and lowercase "a".
Fundations: In Fundations we practiced doing our spelling homework. Every Monday we'll have 10 words to learn that match our Fundations studies. Mrs. Gomes showed us how to complete our spelling sheets and quiz ourselves!
Math: In preparation for our math station work, the class filled in speech bubble with "math talk". We thought about language that would help us be successful partners in our stations and math games. Mathematicians practiced using math talk during our first games of "Double Compare" and "Triple Compare". We are learning to build number fluency with addition.
Social Studies: 2-Gers explored the differences between photographs and maps this week. In addition, we reviewed the cardinal directions as well as funny ways to help us remember them: "Never Eat Soggy Waffles!" Students worked with a partner to create their own bird's eye view maps of our classroom. Bravo, 2-G!
Have a wonderful week!
