Go, 2-G! We have had an amazing start to the school year. Our first two days were filled with fun activities. Please enjoy these highlights of our studies:
Read Aloud and Respond: We read the book, The Magic Hat, by Mem Fox. It is a wonderful story about a magic hat that turns people into animals...and the wizard in the story is a little boy! After reading the story, students used their imaginations and drew their own magic hats. In addition, they described what their hats could do. Oh, how we wish they could really work!
Math: On our first day of school, 2Gers created a class bar graph that shows how many letters we have in our first names. We learned how a bar graph works as we discovered that most students in our classroom have 6 letters in their names.
Literacy: We began our author study of Tomie dePaola. 2G will focus on his Strega Nona collection. After reading the original, Strega Nona, we worked together to create a chart all about the main characters. We can't wait to read more next week!
D.E.A.R. time: Readers got to explore our classroom library and learn how to choose a "just right" book. After choosing books, we got to dive into our stories during D.E.A.R. time which stands for, "Drop Everything And Read".
Science: On Thursday, we did an exciting experiment in Penny Science. We made predictions about how many drops of water we thought could fit on a penny before it spilled. After we did the experiment we were shocked that the results were so different! 2G Scientists loved using the petri dishes, water droppers, and magnifying glasses.
Time Capsules: We had so much fun filling our envelopes with things to put in our time capsules. Each student traced his or her hand, got measured with string, and completed a piece of writing. Mrs. Gomes will add a picture to our envelopes and we'll pack them away until the last week of school. We'll get to see how much we grew!
Enjoy your weekend!
