Happy Fall! We had another amazing week in 2-G. Students worked wonderfully together as a community and added many cubes to our Community Cube Jar. Please enjoy these highlights of our studies:
Literacy: Readers have been learning how to do many of our literacy centers. This week we learned how to do our "Observation Station" center. We loved observing a number of different items found in nature. Students learned to use their observation notebooks and to record their discoveries they observe with the use of their loupes.
Writing Workshop: Writers have been practicing their handwriting. Please remind your 2-Ger to continue using their beautiful handwriting in their homework. We are focusing on forming letters from top to bottom.
Math: Mathematicians worked on skip counting with number lines this week. In addition, we created our own math pages inspired by the book, 12 Ways to Make 11. We are working on building our automaticity with number facts using number 1-10.
Computer Lab: Students created an "About Me" picture using KidPix this week. They chose images that they thought represented themselves and things that they enjoy. They will be on display next week!
Social Studies: What is your Global Address? Today students brought home their own Global Addresses. We created models to show where we live in the world. Ask your child to share his or hers. Our focus this week was to learn to distinguish between our town/city, state, country, and continent. Way to go, Geographers!
Read Aloud: Oh, Strega Nona. We have enjoyed hearing several stories in the Strega Nona collection by Tomie Depaola. During interactive read-alouds, we pause to think about the meanings of new vocabulary in context.
Class Meeting: Every other Friday, we will have Class Meeting in 2-G. This is a time when we talk about social development, friendship, and our anti-bullying rules at Lincoln School. We kicked off our meetings this week with a book entitled, The Brand New Kid, by Katie Couric. 2-G had a rich discussion about what it means to feel welcome in a new place and ways we can help others.
Have a fantastic weekend!
