Flat Stanley is getting ready to travel the world! This week, 2-Gers were introduced to our beloved Flat Stanley. We designed our own versions and wrote letters to the first friends/family members who will meet our special friends. We can't wait to see what comes in the mail to help us learn about other cities, states, and countries! Please enjoy these highlights of our week:
Writing Workshop: Writers began our official story writing sessions. We learned to start a story by creating a picture in our minds. We then take the picture and put it on paper before we write. Students wrote stories about their weekends and included lots of wonderful details. I heard many comment, "This is the most I've ever written!"
Math: Mathematicians became Masters of Sums of 10 this week. We worked on adding and subtracting with 10, comparing sums to 10, and playing a favorite game called, "Turn Over 10." We are developing our fact fluency, learning to recognize combinations that make 10 more efficiently.
Literacy: Readers were introduced to our new center, "Browsing Box" this week. The Browsing Box contains books that relate to topics we are studying in science in social studies to promote literacy across the curriculum. This week, our Browsing Box was filled with wonderful books about geography and travel.
Community Meeting: We had a special visit from the Brookline Police Department at our K-2 community meeting. The police chief, a few officers, and two school crossing guards talked to us about their jobs, what they wear, and the many ways that they keep us safe.
Have a wonderful week!
