Happy November, 2G! We had an amazing week and it was so wonderful to have 21 book characters come to life on Halloween. Please enjoy these highlights of our studies:
Literacy: Detectives continue to read their mystery stories. Readers pay attention to details as we look for clues and write down all that we find in our detective logs. Each week we have a literacy center called, "Browsing Bin". This week's bin included books about Halloween and Fall. We are excited to explore our next bin full of character building books. We have been focusing on social development where students are learning how to speak up for themselves in a positive way and how to deal with situations that may arise during lunch, recess, etc.
Math: Mathematicians learned about even and odd numbers this week. Ask your mathematician to tell you the rule we learned for determining whether a number is even or odd based on it's last digit! In addition, we learned a great new math game entitled, "Close to 20". Soon, we'll be trying, "Close to 100"!
Writing Workshop: Writers have been learning about nouns and proper nouns. Over the next few weeks, we'll explore adjectives and verbs.
Science: Protein! Scientists learned about King Henry the Egg and his amazing meat group this week. We learned about different foods in the meat group and how they help us build strong muscles.
Halloween: On Halloween, book characters paraded through the other second grade classes in the morning. We all participated in a "Guess Who?" game to learn more about our chosen characters. Throughout the day, we had many special activities including a Halloween party with mummy wrapping!
Have a wonderful week.
