We had an incredible week in 2-G that was topped off with Literacy Day on Friday! During Literacy day students participated in several activities that celebrated Lincoln's love for reading. In the morning, students were treated to a visit from Irene Smalls, a wonderful children's literature author. In the early afternoon 2-G went on a "book walk" in front of the school. The Brookline Public Library loaned Lincoln a beautiful story with pages presented on wooden signs. Toward the end of the day, we had very special buddies come to read with us....eighth graders! Ms. Conti's homeroom came to 2-G and read some of our favorite books with us. What a treat!
Please enjoy these additional highlights of our week:
Writing Workshop: Writers worked on completing the final elements of stories for publishing: a dedication page, and a cover page. We are looking forward to publishing our first stories on Tuesday!
Math: Mathematicians are learning about place value in unit 3. We work with base 10 blocks to help determine the value of and compare given amounts. In addition, we are learning to regroup numbers to make problem solving more efficient. A big goal we'll be working toward is recognizing and writing larger numbers. This is a great skill to practice at home!
Science: Calling all food groups! 2-G has been introduced to the "Royal Food Family". This family consists of: "King Henry the Egg", "Queen Ana Banana", "Prince Waffle", "Princess Peapod", and "Sir Milkford the Scholar". These characters are helping us learn about healthy foods and how they help our bodies in different ways. Ask your scientist to tell you about "Little D", the dragon who needs our help to learn about nutrition.
Literacy: 2-G has begun our study of mysteries. Students are reading mysteries in guided reading groups and studying their components. In one of our centers, we learned to use dictionaries to find definitions to many new mystery related words. Ask your child what some other ways are to say, "detective".
Have a wonderful weekend.
