We had an amazing week in 2G. Congratulations to the 2G singers! They all did a wonderful job at their music concert on Wednesday morning. Please enjoy these additional highlights of our week:
Literacy: It's a mystery! 2G detectives have begun their mystery unit. Each reading group is investigating a fantastic mystery. While we work on finding solutions, we are learning about the elements of this genre. Some of our favorite book detectives are: Cam Jansen, Meg Mackintosh, and Nate the Great.
Math: The Action of Subtraction - horizontal problem solving. Mathematicians learned to solve subtraction problems with 2 and 3-digit numbers. We focused on taking away groups of 10s and 1s from the original number to get our answers. Next week, we'll be working with vertical problem solving strategies.
Writing Workshop: This was quite an exciting week to discuss the election. 2G students wrote pieces that began with the prompt, "If I could be president I would...". I was touched by all of the hopes and dreams we share. These will be on display this week for everyone to enjoy.
Science: Scientists worked in pairs to design a boat that floats. They had a ball testing their creations in a tank of water. We had an excellent discussion about buoyancy. Ask your scientist to describe the elements one needs to make a boat float!
Fundations: 2G studied the suffixes, "s", and "es" this week. I am so proud of all of the hard work they did to learn how and when to use these endings. We talked about the fact that these can be tricky when they make the sound of the letter "z". Next week, we'll be learning about the suffix, "ed".
Have a great week.
