Happy February! We had a fantastic week in 2G. In addition to working hard on all of our wonderful studies, students put so much thought into celebrating my birthday....I am truly a lucky teacher! Please enjoy these highlights of our studies:
Literacy: Students are completing a challenging piece of their biography studies. After researching a special person, students found important facts and recorded them on Post-it notes. These Post-it notes were put in chronological order on a graphic organizer. In the final phase, 2Gers are putting their facts together in full sentences to write their own versions of biographies! We have learned so many new sight words in our non-fiction study and we can't wait to share them with you. We'll be publishing next Friday.
Writing Workshop: Writers are creating timelines of the people that they've chosen to study in our biography unit.
Fundations: Outstanding! This week we studied the vowel team, "ou". We learned both the sound "ou" heard in the word, "loud", as well as the "ou" sound in trick words such as, "would", and "could".
Math: Mathematicians completed their unit on Fractions. Students did a great job identifying halves, thirds, fourths, and fifths. On Thursday, we began our new study of Fact Families. Mathematicians are learning how numbers can work together using different operations (ie: 3+4=7, 4+3=7, 7-4=3, and 7-3=4).
Science: Little D (dragon) filled up his tummy with nutritious and delicious foods. Little D has been helping us study the 5 food groups. Scientists learned the importance of healthy eating, as well as how specific foods help our bodies. Next week we'll be starting to learn about the rain forest. 2G has a very special connection with a school in the Amazon rain forest through the One World Classrooms organization.
Enjoy your week!
