2G had an amazing week. We started two new units in math and science! Students have been working together so well and they have filled up their Community Cube Jar! On Friday, the 25th, we'll have a Pajama/Popcorn/Hot Cocoa/Fort party to celebrate. Please enjoy these highlights of our week:
Literacy: Readers are investigating the lives of many very special people in our biography unit. Students are learning how to research non-fiction texts and to identify the main ideas on each page. I am so proud of all of the hard work that 2G is doing. We have designed our own graphic organizers and have already begun writing our own versions of biographies.
Math: We are "halving" so much fun studying fractions! This week mathematicians focused on halving and doubling. We learned the importance of the word, "equal" in our studies.
Writing Workshop: Don't spill the beans! Writers explored idioms on Tuesday. We learned the difference between the literal and the figurative meanings of each saying.
Fundations: 2G learned how to use "oa" and "ow" this week. We discovered that oa usually is found in the beginning and middle of words, and "ow" is often found at the end of words.
Science: We welcomed the Royal Food Family to our classroom in Science. King Henry the Egg, Queen Anna Banana, Princess Peapod, Prince Waffle, and Sir Milkford the Scholar are helping us to learn about the 5 food groups. We began our study by learning about the milk group. Ask your scientist how calcium helps our bodies.
Have a wonderful week!
