We will miss you, Yuta! 2G ended an amazing week with a special celebration for Yuta who is moving back to Japan. We wish him all the best and we look forward to connecting with him soon. Please enjoy these highlights of our studies:
Fundations: We've had a ball! 2Gers studied the glued sound, "all". We will be focusing on glued sounds for the month of April.
Literacy: Students have been engaging in interactive read aloud studies. As I read, I pause frequently throughout the story to ask what students are feeling/connecting with/predicting. We are working on thinking beyond the text. Readers are doing an incredible job building fluency skills in our literacy centers!
Writing Workshop: Writers have been exploring many different types of poetry over the past few weeks. This week, we learned about shape poetry. On Friday, we published four of our poems and there are more to come! Ask your writer about some of their favorite kinds of poetry.
Math: Mathematicians completed their unit on 2 and 3 digit addition and subtraction. We focused on expanded notation to help develop our understanding of number composition/place value. We have learned to carry and borrow. Have your mathematician show you what it means when we say, "bigger bottom, better borrow!"
Science: Soil is amazing! Scientists are beginning to study soil and it components. This week, we learned about organic and non-organic elements. We also conducted an experiment that helped us answer the question, "does soil contain air?".
Have a wonderful week.
