Hello, 2D Families! Here is a review of our fantastic week:
Writing Workshop: Handwriting! Handwriting! Students have been focusing on capital letters this week. In addition, we've continued our story writing about non-fiction events. I am so impressed with all of the detail that students are adding. We are using the five "w's" to help elaborate in our stories: "Who?", "What?", "Why?", "Where?", and "When?".
Literacy: We continue to build our fluency skills in guided reading groups and phonics/word activities.
Math: Greater than, less than, and equal to was our big focus this week. Mathematicians did an incredible job learning to organize their problem solving strategies.
Social Studies: Did you see our "Global Addresses?" We are learning more about where we live in relation to the rest of the world. We'll be focusing on identifying the componenents of cities, states, countries, and continents. Geographers have also been exploring our classroom globes. Our "smart globe" that talks as you travel around the world is a favorite tool!
Science: Scientists began to brainstorm ways to get a marble to travel on water. Students sketched diagrams of what they would build using a combination of tin foil, popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and cardboard. Tomorrow we'll be creating and testing our designs!
Scholastic News: Our news focused on fall fruits and veggies. A wonderful author was highlighted who carves incredible faces etc. into foods. His name is, Saxton Freymann and his creations are so fun to see. We read one of his books entitled, "How are You Peeling?" in class - a hit!
Compliments: I can't express how 2D has truly amazed me. They've been giving compliments to one another every day for a week and they are so thoughtful. It is so nice to see everyone thanking one another at the end of the day and leaving with a smile.
Here's to another great week!
