Through all of the rainy days this week, 2-D brought out the sunshine! Here are the highlights of our wonderful week:
Writing Workshop: Students are working on writing non-fiction stories about weekend/after school events. We are using the practice of sketching a picture first so that we have a tool to help us remember what we wanted to write about.
Literacy: Students are working on Literacy Centers where they are building fluency skills in several different reading/decoding lessons and activities.
Read Alouds: Each snack time, we read a story aloud to the students. We have been enjoying several of the Strega Nona books by Tomie DePaola!
Math: 10 Mania! Our lessons this week focused on adding/subtracting to 10 and using 10 as a benchmark. Students were also introduced to the math games: "Turn Over 10" and "10s Go Fish" (fan favorites)
Social Studies/Computers: We are in the midst of our geography study, focusing on reading map keys and understanding symbols. We enhanced our lessons with a fantastic map skills program in the computer lab entitled, "Trudy's Time and Place House".
Science: Students conducted hands-on experiments with several objects to explore friction. Ask your scientist to explain and/or demonstrate when an object has more or less friction.
Spanish: Students are working on describing feelings/emotions. We are developing skills to have friendly conversations.
I hope you all had an amazing weekend. I look forward to seeing you at Open House on Wednesday morning.
