We had a wonderful week in 2D! Students proved that even though it was a rainy week, it is always sunny in 2D. Enjoy these highlights of our studies:
Literacy: We continued our study of poetry. Students both read and wrote amazing poems with beautiful language. On Wednesday, we had our last publishing session where we edited our poems and fancied them up!
Math: Mathematicians completed their unit on 3-dimensional shapes. Students learned to identify "footprints" that certain shapes could make. This study focused on understanding and identifying faces, edges and vertices of common 3D shapes. Next week, we'll explore measurement of liquids using cups, pints, quarts, and gallons.
Writing Workshop: Writers worked on a Top Secret project that we'll reveal at our breakfast share....
Science: After an exciting visit, we said "good bye" to our resident earthworms as we placed them in their underground homes in our backyard. We learned so much during our earthworm experiments and observations. Ask your scientist about a worm's body parts, how it moves, what it does when it encounters obstacles, and how it helps the soil.
Social Studies: We learned about the significance of corn in the Hopi culture this week. Through a combination of video, read aloud, and non-fiction independent research, students investigated Hopi family life and jobs. It was so interesting to hear about "clans" and what they are named after.
Spanish: Clases! Estudiantes are learning how to say the names of their classes in school. We are talking about our favorites (of course, they all are!).
Have a wonderful week!
