Happy New Year, 2D! We have been having a ball as we've started so many exciting, new studies. Please read these highlights of our recent lessons/activities that continue to make 2D a very special place to be:
Math: Mathematicians are exploring fact families. Students are studying the relationship between addition and subtraction solving problems with both 2 and 3 digit numbers. Mathematicians were also introduced to beginning algebra this week...we're unstoppable!
Literacy: Biographies! Each student had the opportunity to choose one influential person to study. We are learning to search for important information about each person in given texts. Using Post-its, researchers record specific facts and place them on given graphic organizers. This process is helping us to sort information into different periods in a person's life (beginning timelines). Ultimately, we'll be creating amazing reports of our own! Ms. Dungan likes to share biographies with us and we've recently learned about Celia Cruz, "Queen of Salsa". We love her music!
Social Studies: Ahora, estudiamos todo sobre Mexico! Now, we are learning all about Mexico! We began by learning about the country's geography and climate. This week, we'll be exploring traditional Mexican food and clothing. Ms. Dungan loves to travel to Mexico and she'll be sharing many experiences and items she's gathered during her trips.
Science: Scientists are learning about the rain forest. 2D students chose a specific rain forest animals to study and we are fascinated by all that we're discovering! We have a very special project that we do each year with the help of a teacher grant: In collaboration with Sabrina Avnor, our computer teacher, we connect with students in a school in Ecuador. These students live in the Amazon Rain Forest and we get to learn about what they're daily lives are like. Our friend, Paul from "One World Classrooms" travels to Ecuador and he'll be facilitating our project transfers and discussions. Tenemos mucho suerte...We are so lucky!
I am truly blown away by how much 2D students have grown. Thank you for your support in helping our love for learning flourish.
Have a wonderful week!
