2D had an incredible week, topped off with a wonderful mystery breakfast share! Students were so proud of their stories and we can't thank you enough for supporting all of our studies...and all that makes us smile! Please enjoy these highlights our our week:
Fundations: "r" controlled vowels - Students focused on words containing "or" and "ar" in their phonics lessons this week.
Math: Fractions! Mathematicians explored thirds and fourths this week. Through different activities, we learned to identify and create these fractions. A picture book about breaking up a Hershey's bar provided helpful and delicious examples ( a class favorite).
Science: Our nutrition experts learned about the Fruit Group and the Grain Group this week. We are really focusing on eating healthy snacks and paying attention to the different ways specific foods help our bodies.
Social Studies: We had 2 very special days in our Japan study. 3 Classroom parents and Toshiko Fell (our ELL teacher) came into 2D to teach us about 1) The Japanese Tea Ceremony and 2) Japanese Calligraphy. We got to see how a traditional tea ceremony would work, as well as try on yukata (light weight kimonos for girls) and jinbei ( light weight kimonos for boys). Each student enjoyed writing his/her name in Japanese characters using ink and bamboo brushes. They looked so beautiful! We are so grateful for all of the preparation that went into each special activity. These experiences enriched our study of Japan a great deal.
Have a wonderful week!
