2D was action packed this week...with only 3 days of school! We had a wonderful Community Cube Jar celebration on Wednesday in our pajamas. We enjoyed our hot cocoa and popcorn as we watched a fantastic short movie entitled: "Families of Japan". In this movie, we learned about a child's daily life in Japan in both the city and country regions. Please enjoy these additional highlights of our week:
Math: We began our unit on probability and graphing. Mathematicians are learning to both create and interpret bar graphs and picture graphs. 2D created a whole class picture graph about our birthdays and we discovered that there are 7 birthdays in May in our room!
Literacy: Detectives continue to collect clues in reading their mysteries. Cam Jansen, Nate the Great, and Meg Mackintosh are some of our favorite sleuths.
Writing Workshop: In connection with Literacy, writers began filling out a graphic organizer that helps us to plan our own mysteries. Students are having a ball creating their own characters, setting, problem, clues and solutions. We'll be inviting you to try to solve our mysteries at the end of our unit!
Computer Lab: Students did an incredible job typing their own story problems that were written during math. Check out our new bulletin board (up on Tuesday) to see how we solve our story problems both horizontally and vertically.
Fundations: This week we focused on "Trick Words". These are words that do not necessarily follow the grammar rules that we've been learning. Students were reminded to study their weekly spelling words a bit each night for homework to prepare for their spelling review on Friday.
I am so proud of 2D! Have a great week!
