We had an incredible week in 2D! We were thrilled to welcome, Ms. Calabrese, our fabulous student teacher from Boston College. Please enjoy these highlights of our wonderful studies:
Math: Mathematicians completed our unit on fact families. Students did an amazing job working both independently and with a partner to solve given problems. Cross Number puzzles were definitely a favorite! Next week, we'll begin a study of shapes, congruency, and symmetry.
Literacy: I am absolutely amazed to see all of the hard work that students have put into researching their chosen biographies. We have discovered several surprising and interesting facts about so many influential people.
Writing Workshop: Writers began writing, "All About Books" this week. These are beginning chapter books where students are writing about a topic of interest that they know a lot about. We clearly have a wealth of knowledge in 2D and you are guaranteed to learn a lot from each expert.
Science: Scientists completed animal research webs in the computer lab that highlight important facts about a rain forest animal they've chosen. In addition to exploring rain forest wildlife and plants, 2D has begun learning about a rain forest school in Ecuador that we'll be connecting with. We've seen pictures and short videos of some of the students we'll meet as well as their pets (some were very different from ours!).
Social Studies: 2D learned about some traditional foods and clothing in Mexico. We topped off our studies with a tasting of Mexican Hot Chocolate and Cinnamon Sugar Oranges...delicioso! As we do our independent work, we like to listen to music from Mexico to help us learn more about their beautiful culture.
Have a wonderful week!
