We brought books to life! 2D readers became their favorite characters on Character Dress Up Day. This was such a wonderful celebration of the magic that hides inside a good book. This week we started several new studies. Please enjoy these highlights of our week:
Math: Students learned to add and subtract vertically with 2 and 3-digit numbers. This week was an introduction to the concept of "carrying" and "borrowing". Our next unit of study will focus on graphing and probability.
Literacy: Calling all detectives! 2D has started studying mysteries. Students are reading selected mysteries and recording their findings in individual detective logs. Our mystery unit focused on understanding these elements: Character, Setting, Problem, Clues, and Solution.
Social Studies: We began our first country study of Japan. Students explored Japan's land as well as school environment. In this incredible unit, students will explore the language, clothing, food, homes, traditions, music, and children's daily lives in Japan. Please let me know if you would like to come in to share your own connections to our study!
Science: Students concluded their study of movement in air by creating parachutes and investigating air friction.
Writing Workshop: Writers are working very hard to include detail in their personal narratives. Students are developing their handwriting skills, as well as their use of correct capitalization and punctuation. Check out our published stories on the bulletin board outside of our room! We will continue to publish several types of stories throughout the year. These are wonderful keepsakes and students love to see how much their writing skills have improved.
Thank you for your support.
Have a great week!
