Happy October! 2D had a wonderful week that was topped of by a fantastic field trip. Check out these highlights of our studies:
Math: "How close to 10?" Students are learning to use their 10's as a benchmark to help with problem solving, rounding, and estimating.
Literacy: We have started our study of the second grade core book, The Big Balloon Race. As we build our fluency skills, we are meeting in small groups to discuss the content of the story. Readers are learning that while it is important to do our best decoding, great reading also involves thinking about the story.
Science: Scientists built boats with a partner and discussed the elements needed for buoyancy. We're sailing right along!
Fundations: Vowel teams, "oi" and "oy" were our focus this week. 2D is doing an incredible job transferring what we learn in Fundations into our reading and writing. Way to go!
Field Trip to Muddy River: We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful fall day. Students were paired with second graders from 2K and 2M for our trip. They spent the morning observing different elements of nature with magnifying glasses. We even saw several nests along the way! Objects were sketched in their observation journals and we got a chance to bond as a community during our picnic lunch.
Community Meeting: Every other week we have K-2 community meeting at Lincoln. There is a specific focus to each meeting and this week we learned about recycling. We are working hard to take care of our community at Lincoln and beyond.
