What an incredible week! I am so proud of all of our 2Ders for having a fantastic first week of school. We were such busy bees. Here are highlights of our studies:
Morning Meeting: We learn new ways to say "Good morning" in different languages. Students have already learned 4 new greetings!
Science: We did an experiment called, "Penny Science" where students tried to fit droplets of water on the head of a penny. The results were surprising, to say the least! We also began our unit on motion, focusing on objects that slide, roll, and tumble.
Literacy: We have introduced a favorite author, Patricia Polacco. The books we've read thus far are: Firetalking, The Keeping Quilt, and Aunt Chip and the Great Triple Creek Dam Affair. After hearing some of her stories, students responded, and made connections to their own experiences.
Math: We are studying growing and repeating patterns. Challenge your mathematician to find patterns near you (on clothing, in your home, etc.)!
Social Studies: Social Studies begins next week, focusing on geography.
Specials: We had our first music, gym, Spanish and computer lab classes, as well!
Additional Activities: Students created self portraits which will be on display soon. What artists!
One of our bulletin boards in the hallway displays students' "Magic Hat" visions. This writing piece was in response to Mem Fox's book, The Magic Hat - a fan favorite.
2D is in full swing and we are looking forward to an amazing week #2.
