We managed to fit so many fantastic lessons and activities into a short week....Go 2D! Enjoy these highlights of our learning.
Morning Meeting: Our morning meeting time is such a special way to start each day. Students now know how to say "good morning" in 20 different languages! In addition to our greeting and share time, we exercise each morning. We have started Ms. Dungan's "M.I.M." (Motion in the Morning) where we do specific exercises to get our bodies and minds moving and ready for learning.
Math: We continued our study of place value this week, focusing on two and three-digit numbers. We will use the skills we've learned to solve given addition and subtraction problems with larger numbers.
Literacy: In our study of The Big Balloon Race, we focused on the plot elements of the story. Students had the opportunity to take on one character's point of view and jump inside the story! The Big Balloon race is full of rich vocabulary. Ask your reader to tell you about "aeronauts" and "heroines".
Social Studies: Welcome, Flat Stanley! Thank you for supporting our study and sending in an addressed envelope for Flat Stanley's travels. He'll be sent on his adventures this week and we can't wait to hear about all of the places he visits. Students have written personal letters to go in the envelope that will also contain directions about how the study works.
Fundations: Scooping! As readers build their fluency skills, they are learning to use their pointer fingers and "scoop" whole phrases while they read. This technique is incredibly beneficial for all reading levels as it requires the reader to read carefully, while developing a more fluid reading pattern.
I hope you enjoyed a wonderful fall weekend.
